Another Santa Event is in the books, and I swear this is one of those days that never gets old.
There is something so fun about watching the kids come in, color their Santa picture, fill out their wish lists, and wait for their turn without knowing exactly what is about to happen.
Then comes my favorite part.
We start with a few portraits of the kids by themselves while Santa quietly sneaks in behind them. They have no idea he’s there until we tell them to turn around.
Their reactions are everything.
Some kids immediately light up. Some are completely shocked. Some get shy. And every once in a while, Santa gets a reaction that has all of us laughing.
I love that we get to capture that exact moment because it’s something parents normally only get to experience, not actually have photographed.
Afterward, there were candy canes, treats, a special North Pole cookie, and of course, the advent calendars I give out every year so they’re ready to start counting down to Christmas on December 1st.

That’s also one of the reasons I hold my Santa Event in November. Families have their finished Santa pictures before December begins, with plenty of time to use them for Christmas cards if they’d like.
I had families join me from Bountiful, Salt Lake City, and throughout northern Utah again this year, and I’m so grateful this little Santa Event has become part of the Christmas tradition for so many of them.
Seeing familiar faces come back year after year, and watching these kids grow up through my camera, might just be my favorite part of all.
