Thinking About a Session With Your Girls? Here’s What It Actually Feels Like

Children’s photography session Salt Lake City.

If you’re wondering how your kids will do… you’re not alone.

Most moms come in a little unsure.

Will they listen?
Will they cooperate?
Will it feel stressful?

The truth is… they don’t need to.

They don’t need to be perfectly behaved.
They don’t need to know what to do.

They just need a minute.

They Don’t Walk In Ready And That’s Okay

A lot of kids come in a little hesitant.

They look around.
They stay close to you.
They’re not sure yet.

I don’t rush that.

They get to ease into it.

And then something shifts.

They start to explore.
They get curious.
They settle in.

And once they feel safe… everything opens up.

Your Job Isn’t to Make It Go Well

You don’t have to prep them perfectly.
You don’t have to remind them to smile.
You don’t have to make the session work.

That’s not your role.

Your job is to be with them.

To sit close.
To hold them.
To let them come and go.

Because that’s where the connection is.

What I’m Actually Watching For

I’m not looking for perfect poses.

I’m watching for:

The way they lean into you
The way they look at each other
The way they soften once they feel comfortable

I guide gently, but I follow them.

Because when kids feel like themselves…
that’s when the images feel like them too.

You Don’t Have to Wonder If It Will Work

It does.

Not because everything goes perfectly…
but because it doesn’t have to.

Every session unfolds in its own way.
And that’s exactly what makes it meaningful.

There’s no perfect way to do the newborn stage. There’s just showing up, again and again.
Newborn days have a way of slowing everything down. The outside world keeps moving, but inside the home it’s all feeding, holding, and learning someone new.
It’s okay if these days feel like a lot. They are.
The images we surround ourselves with shape what we remember.
