Hello, my name is Julie, and I am the photographer behind Jewels Photography in Utah.
Why am I introducing myself? Well… let me share with you a little story.
6 years ago TODAY (as a matter of fact) I bought my first camera. I was inspired to buy one because I had just had a baby 6 months previously (August 21) and seen so many adorable baby pictures on the internet. I could have saved and purchased ONE professional session, but I couldn’t afford to pay someone to document his whole life they way I wanted too. So I went down to Costco, picked out a beautiful shiny new Canon Rebel t2i, came home and started snapping away, and the journey began.
6 months into my click-snappin-out of control picture taking journey, (Yep that puts me at my son’s first birthday) I photographed someone else’s child. Everyone raved “You’re so good, you should be in business!”. Being music to my ears, I jumped on it and started my first blog.

Along with the new blog, there had to come a name. I was to be married but we had to postpone our wedding due to my father in law being diagnosed with Leukemia. So my last name was not going to be my official name, and I didn’t want to call myself by a name that wasn’t official yet.
Alas – I decided on the name everyone called me all my life.
Jewels.
I researched other Jewels Photography’s in the USA and even checked to ensure there were no Trademarks on the name. I noticed there were quite a number of other Jewels Photography (and names similar to it) but it was free and open to use.
And that is when my “Jewels Photography” was born.
Years went by, a wedding and another baby later, thousands of hours of practice and thousands of dollars in classes and gear and thousands of pictures later, I was ready to push to a new level.
I was ready to re-brand myself to a specific style and market. I toyed around with the idea of changing my name back then, but I had been Jewels Photography for so long and with all the work involved in a name change, I just left it.
2 years into my newly rebranded business, I receive a heartfelt message from another owner of Jewels Photography, she sadly informed me that while she purchased the Trademark “Jewels Photography” over a year ago, the time has come that with the amount of Jewels Photography’s are out there, it is beginning to interfere with our business. Regardless of her rights to the name, I agreed that a name change is in order. It is time for me to do what I always wanted to do.
That is to become fully ME in this industry.
So with all your love and support, because this was not an easy move to make but a very necessary one, going forward I will now be Julie Sheriff Photography,
and I am so excited to see where this journey takes me under my new name!
